I recently found a health talk on protein that you can listen to here.  I have long known that protein is super important.  However, the talk made me realize even more how important protein really is. Even before I listened, in my simplistic way, I thought of our muscles as being protein and since they take up a lot of space in our bodies, I figured we must need a lot of raw materials (protein) to keep those muscle cells in good shape.

A while back, I had listened to other talks and had learned that the word “Protein” gives us insight into the importance of protein since the word is derived from the Greek word, “Protos” meaning “First.” I also had heard about how the daily Protein needed is measured in grams and not milligrams like vitamins and minerals.  However, I didn’t realize that even sedentary persons require quite a bit of grams of protein every day.

Shaklee has several protein products and they are all good, Shaklee quality products. And recently I was reviewing the different Shaklee protein products with their retail and member pricing, so I want to share what I found here.  This information is current as of May 2025.

First, there are 2 main products that feature solely protein (minus any other vitamins or minerals).  There is the original “Shaklee Protein” that is still available called Energizing Soy Protein and it is available in either Vanilla or Chocolate.  It is the most economical choice if you are looking for a good protein supplement with all 9 essential amino acids.  The Retail Price is $48.45 and the Member Price is $41.15 and you get 30 servings per canister.  You can find out more information about Shaklee’s Energizing Soy Protein here.
Next there is a whey “protein only” option in the Sports nutrition category called  Performance® Advanced Physique® 100% Grass-Fed Whey Protein. It has several branched-chain amino acids in addition to all 9 essential amino acids. It also contains 50% more leucine than typical whey proteins. Leucine is the key branched-chain amino acid proven to help preserve and build lean muscle. It is available in either Vanilla or Chocolate, features 20 servings per canister, and is sweetened with stevia, for those who are looking for a no sugar option.  It is made with extremely high quality grass fed whey that is specially certified for athletes to be free of banned substances. The Retail Price is $65.55 and the Member Price is  $55.70.  You can find out more information about Shaklee’s Whey Grass Fed Build here.
Next there are several meal replacement protein options.  One of these is Life Shake and it is available with either soy or plant protein and available in 2 Sizes with multiple flavor options.  The 14 servings size has several flavor options in soy and several in plant.  The soy flavors in either size option are Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, and Cafe Latte.   And the plant 14 servings plant option is available all the time in Chocolate or Vanilla and usually also a seasonal flavor as well, which currently is Pina Colada.  Either soy or plant is priced the same with Retail Price being $60.50 and Member Price being $51.45 ($3.68 per meal replacement).  The 28 Servings size has multiple flavors in soy, however, in plant, it is available only in Chocolate or Vanilla. Either soy or plant is priced the same for the 28 servings option with Retail Price being $109.05 and Member Price being $92.65 ($3.31 per meal replacement).
There is also a meal replacement compatible with the Shaklee 180 weight management program which is comparable to Life Shake, but it has never been re-branded as “Life Shake” and it is called the 180 Whey Smoothee.  It comes in only a 15 servings size canister and is Retail Price at Member Price at $56.60 ($3.77 per meal replacement).  More information can be found here.
In addition, there is a non weight management whey option that was formulated years ago with the concept of providing a meal replacement.  This has been used for years by Shaklee members as an especially good meal replacement option for young eaters who might be somewhat picky. It doesn’t have as much protein as the Whey Smoothee.  It is called Meal Shake and is available in both Vanilla and Chocolate with 16 Servings per canister and is Retail Price at $32.70 and Member Price at $27.75 ($1.73 per meal replacement).  More information about Meal Shake can be seen here.
One final note that I’d like to share is that Shaklee’s soy protein products are processed in such a way that they do not carry the typical negative soy issues. And it goes deeper than Shaklee soy being non-GMO.  Shaklee soy is an isolate and was actually the first soy protein isolate on the market in 1961.  In addition, Shaklee soy is actually water washed (not chemical washed) and is processed with no heat, so it is not denatured.  But for those who still prefer a non-soy plant based protein, as noted earlier Shaklee does offer a non-soy, plant protein option. With all of these options, there is sure to be something for everyone so that everyone can get quality protein supplementation without worry about contamination by un-disclosed steroids.  When I learned that about 80% of protein supplements on the market have un-disclosed steroids in them, I decided to switch to only Shaklee brand protein products.  When I know that elite athletes (who are subject to random drug testing at any time) will use and do use Shaklee brand protein products and not just the ones specifically made for athletes, it made me realize Shaklee has something special in their protein products.

All of this recent focus has made me realize that I need to review and look more into this essential component to nourishing our life.
